What does "Insufficient balance" mean?

“Insufficient balance” means an order was sent to the exchange but couldn’t be filled, because the free balance in that account had fallen short at that moment. It isn’t a bug: Altrady is reading your real, current balance on the exchange.

You won’t normally see this on an order you place by hand. Altrady checks your free balance first and won’t let you place an order it can’t cover, so the Place Order button simply stays disabled (if that’s what you’re hitting, see why is my Available Balance zero or lower than expected?). The error itself shows up on orders that Altrady or a bot places for you later, once conditions have moved. The cause is usually one of the below.

What “free” balance means

Altrady works from your free balance, not your total holdings or your open position value. Free balance is whatever isn’t already committed, so anything reserved by open orders, or held in a different account or wallet, doesn’t count.

Common causes, and where each is covered

  • A later order failed because its funds weren’t reserved. Some orders don’t set their money aside up front, a trailing take profit, a stop market / stop loss, or a “Start position at” entry, so the funds can be spent elsewhere and aren’t there when the order finally fires. See why did an order fail after my position opened?.
  • A spot short’s buy-back came up short. Closing a spot short buys the coin back. If the market moves and the buy needs more quote currency than the position holds (slippage), or the buy-back fees weren’t set aside, it fails. See how do spot short positions work?.
  • A bot hit it while running. A bot doesn’t pre-check your balance before opening a position, so a running bot can send an order the exchange then rejects, for example a grid trailing up when quote currency is short. A signal bot will attempt to open a position using the entry sizes specified, and if there are not enough funds, will encounter this error. See grid bot not trading or signal bot not trading.
  • The bought coins haven’t landed in your wallet yet. Right after an entry fills, the exchange can be slow to credit the coins, so a take-profit placed straight away has nothing to sell. Altrady retries this automatically (about twice); a manual resync forces the update sooner.
  • Your Available Balance is genuinely low. Funds tied up in open orders, the wrong account or wallet selected, or a balance that hasn’t refreshed. This is also what disables Place Order before a manual order. See why is my Available Balance zero or lower than expected?.

What to do

Work out which cause above applies and follow its link. Two quick wins clear most cases: resync the account (especially right after a fill), and free up funds committed to open orders or other positions on that currency. If the free balance is genuinely short, add funds or reduce the order size.

If your balance is fine but the order is still blocked, it may be below the exchange’s minimum order size, or have a price or stop-loss on the wrong side of the market.

Still stuck?

If you’ve resynced, freed up funds, and confirmed the right account but the error keeps coming back, let us know the exchange, account, and the exact error text so the team can check what Altrady is seeing. You can reach our support team anytime through the chat bubble in the bottom-right corner of our Help Center at help.altrady.com.
